A unique diamond weighing almost 200 carats was mined on the Udachnaya pipe in mid-January 2019
A gemstone (size – 40 x 31 x 20 mm, mass - 191.46 carats) was extracted at the Plant No.12 of the Udachny Mining and Processing Division. The mined diamond is transparent, with a slight yellowish tinge.
“Such findings of large diamonds of gem quality, weighing more than 100 carats, confirm that there are a lot of unique precious raw materials in the reserves of the Udachnaya kimberlite pipe. Since the beginning of the pipe development in 1967, this deposit gave hundreds of the largest diamonds. In the near future, this rare specimen will be sent to the United Selling Organization of ALROSA (USO) for its detailed study and assessment," Evgeny Agureev, board member, USO Director.
Previously comparable in size diamond was mined more than 2.5 years ago.
The Udachnaya pipe was discovered in 1955 and is among the largest primary diamond deposits both in Yakutia and abroad.
