Egor Borisov welcomes UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova at the airport of Yakutsk

JULY 6 Egor Borisov greeted Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO, at the airport of Yakutsk, who pays an official visit to the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) for the first time.

Ms. Bokova will participate in the opening of 2nd International Epic Forum "Epics of the World's Nations on the Land of Olonkho." Its opening will take place in the Orto Doydu Cultural and Ethnographic complex in Khangalassky ulus. The exhibition Preservation,Revival and Development of the Yakut heroic epic Olonkho will also open there.

UNESCO Director-General will address the plenary session of the International Scientific Conference The Epic Heritage of the Peoples of the World: Traditions and Ethnic Specificities.

In addition, Irina Bokova and Egor Borisov are also expected to participate in the opening ceremony of 20th National Sports Games Manchaary Games in Verkhnevilyuisk.

The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the first of the regions of the Russian Federation, established cooperation with UNESCO in January 1991. Subsequently, the experience of interaction between Yakutia and UNESCO and forms of practical work were used by many Russian regions. The Republic systematically develops cooperation with an international organization on the basis of 2nd Joint Communique signed by the Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Egor Borisov and UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova in June 2014.
