SPIEF-2018: On cooperation between St. Petersburg and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in the Arctic sector

June 6 Smolny hosted a working meeting of representatives of the St. Petersburg Committee for Arctic Affairs and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)

During the meeting representatives of the Committee for Arctic Affairs and the Permanent Mission of Yakutia discussed cooperation programs in the area of human resources development and scientific support of the activities of organizations and institutions of Yakutia, development of interaction with indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North, living in the Arctic regions of the Republic, as well as promising areas of cooperation in the industrial sphere.

The sides exchanged experience in the field of personnel training, development of academic mobility, support of state policy in the social sphere and ethno-cultural development of indigenous small peoples.

During the talks, the sides also discussed prospects for using the industrial potential of St. Petersburg for the needs of the Arctic territories of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Participants noted that it is time to unite efforts, accumulate experience and make full use of the potential of the regions for exploration and developing the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.

Yuri Kravtsov, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) under the President of the Russian Federation, noted that "cooperation agreements have been signed, it is now necessary to expand regional Arctic competencies, formulate specific private goals and implement viable projects."

Following the meeting, a joint work plan was outlined.
