The Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Moscow hosted a meeting of the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) under the President of the Russian Federation - First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the RS (Y) Andrei Fedotov with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Russian Federation Riad Haddad.
During the talks the parties discussed prospects of cooperation. The Ambassador pointed out that Syria is interested in establishing relations with the Russian regions. He said that about 20 Russian companies took part in the Damascus International Fair, and a number of contracts were signed with Russian construction companies. Riad Haddad expressed the hope that companies from Yakutia will soon be included in the number of Russian companies-partners of Syria.
The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) under the President of the Russian Federation, Andrei Fedotov, expressed his support for the Syrian people in their struggle for freedom and for the restoration of the country after a devastating war. The Permanent Representative noted that the Russian Federation advocates equality in international relations with all nations and states regardless of their size and military-economic power, which should contribute to stabilizing the situation in the international arena.
Having noted the positive experience of relations in the humanitarian sphere between Yakutia and Syria, in particular, the participation of athletes from Syria in the 'Children of Asia' International Sports Games in 2012 and 2016, the permanent representative on behalf of the head of the Sakha (Yakutia) Republic Aisen Nikolaev expressed the republic’s readiness to develop humanitarian relations further, as well as the establishment of bilateral relations in the field of economy, trade and tourism.
During the meeting, the parties agreed to establish sister city relations between the capital of Yakutia and one of the cities of Syria with the aim of participating of the republic in restoring the sanatorium-resort infrastructure facility and its further use as a resort site for Yakutia residents.
In addition, the meeting considered the possibility of delivering citrus products from Syria to Yakutia through the seaports of Crimea, also discussed the possible participation of companies of Yakutia in the reconstruction of social facilities, transport and road infrastructure in the territory of Syria.
The proposals of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) were fully supported by the Syrian side. Andrei Fedotov and Riad Khaddad expressed a mutual wish to organize the next meeting with the participation of representatives of the Yakut and Syrian companies to discuss the prospects for mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in various fields.
