The head of Yakutia, Aisen Nikolaev, signed a decree on the Council for the Development of Languages in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
Constitutionally the state languages of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Russian and Sakha (Yakut). The languages of the indigenous peoples of the North are official in the places of compact residence of these peoples.
The Council for the Development of Languages in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) under the head of the republic is intended to improve the state development policy, protect and support the state and official languages of Yakutia, increase their relevance, and expand the scope of their application.
Being a consultative and coordinating body, the Council will coordinate the activities of the executive bodies of state power, local self-government bodies, public associations, scientific, educational and other organizations to form a unified approach to the use of languages as an integral part of the spiritual legacy of Yakutia. Also among the main tasks of the Council are the improvement of linguistic culture, the preservation and protection of linguistic diversity and the increase in the general level of linguistic literacy and speech culture.
The body includes famous scientists and experts in the field of studying, developing and preserving languages, the press service of the head and government of the republic reports.
“Language is the peoples' soul, if the language is alive, the people are alive. To preserve and pass the beauty and diversity of the native language on to the new generations is the duty of each of us,” emphasized Aisen Nikolaev. The head noted that in the Year of Consolidation in the republic, work will continue to foster love among the young people for their native language and respectful attitude towards the culture and traditions of other nations.
