Acting Minister of Education and Science of the RS (Y) Vladimir Egorov spoke about the organization of language education in the republic at a meeting of the Ministry of Education of Russia. The meeting on the study of the native languages of the peoples of Russia was held in the mode of videoconferencing led by Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Tatiana Sinyugina.
The participants discussed regulatory issues in the study of native languages from among the languages of the peoples of Russia, improving the system of monitoring the status and development of languages of the peoples of Russia, making changes to exemplary educational programs.
In addition to the Foundation for Preservation and Study of the Native Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation, it is planned to establish an Institute for Development of Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation.
Vladimir Egorov spoke on topical issues of language education in the republic, including the inclusion of textbooks in native languages in the federal list of textbooks. He meant those textbooks that were recommended for publication by the Scientific and Methodological Council on Textbooks of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
The Minister noted the need for state support at the federal level, the development and publication of textbooks and manuals for teching the languages of the indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East and training of teachers of these languages. He expressed the hope that the results of the state final examination in native languages would be taken into account for admission to universities.
Currently, in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), schooling is carried out in two state languages: Russian and Yakut. In addition, the Yakut language is taught as a separate subject, as well as the official languages of the republic: Even, Evenki, Yukagir, Chukchi, Dolgan.
